The Mission

Eligibility

The purpose of this residency program is to develop leaders – the kind of leaders who live out their faith in such a way as to change lives and communities through the sharing of God’s unconditional love. Missional residents will find that many of the ministries engage with the local community through the four missional impulses: Presence, Proximity, Powerlessness, and Proclamation.

Residents will live within the context of liminality, multi-cultural immersion, and adaptive discipleship while living together in Christian community, practicing spiritual disciplines, and living by the Wesleyan rule of life.

The hope is to create a culture of disciple-making movements, paying close attention to the discipleship process: Recruitment, Selection, Training, Reproduction, and then Repeating the cycle.

Residents will learn various evangelism models and techniques, study the Bible with the objective of sharing it with others, and use tools to deepen their prayer life to intercede for friends, family, the local church, the local community, and the world. Each site aspires to raise a new generation of diverse disciple-makers with a strong sense of adaptive and pioneering missional spirit.

Each site is open to Christian young adults between the ages of 18 and 25, who are interested in joining God in mission in a cross-cultural setting and full cross-cultural immersive living. If you think this is something you are interested in, apply today!

The Site

Monterrey is a modern metropolitan city, the capital of the Nuevo León state in northeastern Mexico. Monterrey is a beautiful city located at the base of the scenic Sierra Madre mountain range. It serves as the commercial capital of northern Mexico, the second most industrial city in Mexico, and is the center of many significant international corporations. Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, the number one university in all of Mexico, is located here, as well as the largest public university, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.

Because of the location, residents will be actively involved in pioneering refugee and student ministries. Both Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) are top choices for university education for young adults in Mexico, many of whom are hungry for something new that only the Gospel can provide. Residents will be engaging the vibrant next generation of engineers, architects, artists, and business people with the message of Christ. They will have many opportunities to connect with and serve alongside our ministry partners in the city and across the country.

Currently, over half a million refugees and asylum seekers live in Mexico, with a majority living in downtown Monterrey. Residents and students will also serve the families and children in these refugee communities, learning adaptive and creative ways to incarnate Christ as they share the Gospel message through word and deed. Alongside our ministry partners at the US-Mexico border in the north and the Mexico-Guatemala border in the south, residents will be actively involved in addressing border issues and injustices as they serve.

“The great Christian revolutions came not by the discovery of something that was not known before. They happen when someone takes radically something that was always there.”

H. Richard Niebuhr
