Gresham United Methodist Church is excited to partner with QuadW for our third year. The 2017 Portland site will continue its focus on engaging children.
We will host a summer school program in partnership with two area elementary schools that will provide:
· Breakfast and lunch for all children in the program and the neighborhood
· Summer education program to assist the children in catching up or improving their reading, math and writing skills, including an art enrichment program
Interns can expect to get hands on experience in the field of childhood education.
We also aim to maintain and extend our relationship with the Bustin' Barriers organization. The focus of these programs are in athletics and coaching of students who have special needs. We aim to increase our relationship with this program so that interns can gain experience in fostering such programs.
A huge development for this coming years Quad W team will be the introduction of a new community center in a neighboring local community. The Rockwood Center will become a place which will develop after school programming. These programs can range across the spectrum of the arts. Ideas percolating so far include dance, theater, art, music and more. Here interns can expect to push their creative capacities to the limit and navigate the complexities of such programming.
Finally, QuadW Interns will experience Reflection Fridays. Each Friday the Interns will travel to the Northwest mountains, oceans, trails and streams to focus on questions of faith, spiritual journey, life with Christ and vocational discernment. Oregon is a beautiful place for hiking, camping in old growth forest and walk beside salmon filled streams. Discovering God in the sacred landscapes is a Northwest spiritual practice.
If you are seeking a spiritual adventure, then come to Portland.
